First on the list is

Ashaway Bird3

Feather alternatives

The new Bird 3 is the latest innovation, developed from the Bird 2. Changes have been made on the improvement of both flight and feel of the shuttle. Never before has a nylon felt and flown so much like a feather shuttlecock without the need to use feathers plucked from living birds and the durability makes this shuttle more sustainable thinking greener for the environment.

Although the Bird3 is actually lighter than Bird2, it feels heavier when hit (more like a feather) due to the increased air resistance. The medium speed (77 gram) is 5.0 grams, whereas standard nylon shuttles are heavier, ranging from 5.2 to 5.5 grams. Bird3 is very different from standard one-piece nylon shuttlecocks. The design of the cage (the dark part) at the bottom has been improved to alter the vortex speed within the shuttle as the shuttle moves through the air. This increases baffle and gives the feeling of real weight.

One of the big differences in the development of Bird 3 is the performance on net shots.

Weights – These are now exactly in line with feather shuttlecocks and can therefore be referred to the same as feathers with regard to speed:

77 / 5.00 grams - Medium

78 / 5.07 grams - Medium Fast

Will BWF finally say no to the cruel practice and choose the most suitable alternative available

We are all unique individuals yet in a sport we all use the same equipment and techniques

we can take this opportunity to explore synthetics and find new ways of playing with the shuttle

Second on the list is

Yonex Mavis 2000

GREAT LONG-LASTING CLUB/PRACTICE SHUTTLE

Highlighting an error made by Yonex on the marketing of this shuttle being for practice only, assuming that means they are saying this won’t be suitable in a match,

when the truth is, of course, you can play a match with this shuttle, many have.

I then wonder, when they make the transition to synthetics, will they change this?

Description

  • EXCELLENT ALTERNATIVE TO FEATHER SHUTTLES

  • YONEX'S TOP-GRADE NYLON SHUTTLE

  • WING RIB TECHNOLOGY FOR DURABILITY

The Yonex Mavis 2000 Shuttlecocks offers a combination of close-to-feather shuttlecock flight performance and four to five times more durability than an ordinary nylon shuttlecock making the YONEX MAVIS series the most cost-effective choice for practice sessions.

Again highlights the direct miss of information on the comparison of durability with the feather, the reason being, feather shuttlecocks are not at all durable

says Wild

Personally speaking I like the flight path of Bird 3, much better than Yonex.
