Finding out the truth about Badminton!

‘It all begins with an idea’

‘What do you know about the feather shuttlecock ?’

A horrifying fact

Feathers are plucked from living conscious birds - Geese, Ducks, chickens & Peacocks … used for feather shuttlecocks.

(… Unknown how many more birds are trialled)

How does the human look here……

Poland, down feather plucking exposed by PETA 2023, after Canada goose said they use responsible and no longer use the practice of live plucking

Think before you give your money to organisations that cause suffering to animals, choose non-animall products.

Let’s explore this further

Live plucking birds’ feathers for badminton is a separate entity from down and the meat trade. They are raised purely for having their flight feathers plucked repeatedly as they involuntarily regrow their feathers for the sport to function.

The birds have no say and no way to save themselves through this cruel man-made practice.

These are adult birds, humans pluck a minimum of 4 - a maximum of 40, (we just don’t know yet!) primary flight feathers from the left and right wings.

1-6 primary flight feathers form a speed/grade 3 shuttle, they will only use 1-4 primary flight feathers from the left wing for tournaments which means they use 4 BIRDS to make one shuttlecock consisting of 16 feathers. At the Olympics, about two dozen shuttles are used in each/one match on average.

How many birds do they then use in the Olympics?

We have come to the conclusion, so far until proven otherwise, that they keep the birds alive until the feathers stop regrowing giving them no use and then passing the birds on to the next industry like the foie gras or down feather, fashion or the slaughter, it is unclear and so well hidden, not a promising life for these beautiful innocent birds we admire so much in our every day lives since childhood.

Let’s break it down for you so you can understand just how extreme this practice is.

Figures show - from an insource at YoneX

24,419 tubes were sold to one supplier over the course of 6 months, this translates to the following amount of feathers used,

-          One tube consists of 12 feather shuttlecocks

-          24,419 (tubes) x 12 (shuttlecocks per tube) = 293,028 shuttles in total used in 6 months

-          16 feathers are required to produce one shuttlecock

-          16 (feathers) x 293,028 (shuttles) = 4,688,448 feathers plucked and sold in 6 months to one supplier!

The above calculation results in approx 10m feathers required to service one supplier for a year worth of supply.

Further research suggests that only certain feathers can be used to produce high-quality shuttles, this is clear evidence of animal cruelty, unsustainability and negative impact towards the environment at a huge scale.

For top-flight feather shuttlecocks, only 4 feathers are sourced from one bird,

one tube consists of 12 shuttlecocks, where each shuttlecock requires 16 feathers, which would result in 192 feathers per cylinder tube.

192 feathers/4 feathers from each bird = 48 birds required to make one tube!

In the above example regarding the supplier in question, 10m feathers would require 2.5 million birds

As much as we would “like” to say, these birds are dead before the plucking happens, they are not, for the evidence suggests that this business wants to get the most out of their product, so they use the same bird depending on being able to regrow their feathers,  given no trauma has happened to the follicle means they get to pluck one bird around 1-6 times.

This is pure cruelty at the hands of humans using animals for entertainment and greed and we are needing more information on this as the industry will not speak.

The beauty of this story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and this site will evolve with it.

Our goal is to make it feel right for right now and I would like you to be a part of this movement for the truth and our future.

We are a dominating species that can do a lot of harm and a lot of good, I’m reaching out to as many people globally, to give you the opportunity to think about what is happening and perhaps what your buying into, also to think about how the Birds cannot help themselves.

Another question, do we really need animals to entertain ourselves or to survive?

I know you know the answer is no, so why is it still happening and why aren’t more people talking about it?.
